Bernardine served 24 years in both the U.S. Navy and the Air National Guard as a C-130 tactical flight nurse, nurse instructor, and flight nurse examiner. She served in Operation Desert Shield and Storm.
Bernardine is the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation, Combat Readiness Medal, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia Liberation Medals, Humanitarian Service Medal, Small Arms expert medal, Outstanding Unit Citation with V for Valor, and many more.
