My father and mother were married on Dec. 7, 1940. Who could have guessed their anniversary would be so easy to remember. Dad was among the first draftees from Washington, DC (their home at the time) and served in Europe.
He was later recalled to active duty as a member of the Arkansas National Guard when they were Federalized to provide security for the integration of Little Rock Central High School in 1957.
