Paul Willey Hadzor was 21 when he registered in Pittsburgh PA for active service in World War II. After two years of domestic service, he was sent to England, where he flew with the 8th AAF as a right-waist gunner on a B-24 Liberator. He was in the 852nd Bombardment Squadron, a part of the 491st Bombardment Group, out of North Pickenham, England. He flew 18 missions against Nazi Germany, earning him a Distinguished Unit Citation, three bronze stars, and an Air Medal with two bronze Oak Leaf clusters.

After being honorably discharged in October 1945, he came home to join his wife Maxine in Pittsburgh where they went on to raise three sons: Paul, Chris and Tom Hadzor.
