Dr. Frank John Dracos served as a U.S. Navy flight surgeon, with assignments aboard the aircraft carriers USS Forrestal and USS Essex. The Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola is the primary training center for Navy flight surgeons. Dr. Dracos underwent his flight surgeon training there before his deployments.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Dr. Dracos pursued a distinguished civilian medical career. He became the first orthopedic surgeon to establish a practice in the Pocono Mountains, founding Pocono Orthopedic Consultants in 1966. He also established the orthopedic department at Pocono Hospital (now Pocono Medical Center) and served as Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics for 36 years. Currently, a free orthopedic clinic at the hospital bears his name.
Beyond his medical practice, he contributed significantly to his community, serving on the hospital board and engaging in various civic activities.
