My daddy served in the US Navy from 1965 to 1971 as a Fire Control Technician (Gunfire Control) Second Class on the USS Austin (LPD-4). In this role, he maintained computers that controlled tracking of enemy aircraft, etc. for targets for the gun mounts. He proudly served his country. Serving comes as no surprise to me because my daddy has always had a servant's heart, putting others before himself and lending a hand to those in need. My daddy has taught me the value of working hard and that I should do everything to the best of my ability. He has shown deep love for his God, for his family and friends, and for his country. I am proud to be the daughter of my hero, Ray Chiles Jr., US Navy veteran.
