About OweN

Veteran, United States Air Force

My father served his country with honor as a medic in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. His love of aviation continued long after his military service, leading him to a career with Piedmont Airlines in Winston-Salem. But beyond his service and career, my dad was my hero.

He worked hard, yet somehow was never too tired to spend time with his children. He was an explorer at heart — curious, inventive, and always seeking new adventures.

Part engineer, part adventurer, he built incredible tree houses that became gathering places for neighborhood children. Long before animal rescue became commonplace, he opened his heart to abandoned dogs and taught us the value of compassion.

He built amazing kites and patiently taught us the aerodynamics that kept them soaring high above us. Through those moments, he inspired our imagination, curiosity, and sense of wonder.

My father’s legacy is one of service, creativity, kindness, and love of family. He believed life was meant to be explored, not merely traveled through.

Like the poet Robert Frost, he “took the road less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”
