Richard S. Ellenberger, MAJ, USA, Ret., is an accomplished healthcare executive and retired Army officer with degrees from the University of Illinois (BS, 1979), University of Southern California (MS, 1987), and Baylor University (MHA, 1995). He was board-certified in healthcare management, a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and holds an FAA Commercial Pilot rating for fixed and rotary-wing aircraft.
Mo. Ellenberger retired from the U.S. Army as a Medical Service Corps officer. His notable military assignments include serving as Administrator of Ambulatory Services at Evans Community Hospital and commanding the 45th Helicopter Ambulance Company during Operation Desert Storm. For his valorous service in the Persian Gulf War, the Secretary of the Army awarded him the Bronze Star Medal with "V" device and two Air Medals.
In his civilian career, he joined Sarah Bush Lincoln in 1997, managing regional medical clinics across multiple counties and specialties as Clinic Director. Before fully retiring from healthcare, he spent two years as the Vice President of Physician Clinics for Trinity Health System in Muscatine, Iowa. He and his wife, Sheri, reside in Champaign, Illinois, and have a son, Brian. In his free time, Rick performs instrumental piano, sings in his church choir, and repairs antique mechanical clocks and Lionel trains.
