Sheryl (Sheri) Brown Ellenberger grew up traveling the world as a military dependent alongside her father, Col. George A. Brown. After graduating from S.H.A.P.E. High School in 1975, she attended the University of Illinois (U of I), participating in ROTC. She graduated and was commissioned as an Army Second Lieutenant in 1979.Following logistics training at Ft. Lee, she was assigned to the Combat Development Experimentation Command at Ft. Ord and served as the Logistics Officer for the ARMVAL experiment at Ft. Hunter Liggett.
In 1980, she married fellow Army officer Richard Ellenberger. She later transferred to the 1st Infantry Division, serving as Main Supply Platoon Leader and Assistant S-4, eventually earning the rank of Captain.As a military spouse, she followed her husband’s assignments to Alabama, Germany, Texas, and Colorado, working for First Command Financial Services.
After his military retirement, the family returned to Champaign, Illinois. Sheri spent 16 years as the Logistics and Membership Manager for the National Council of Teachers of English, during which she earned her MBA from the U of I in 2004.
In 2014, she became the Chief Financial Officer for the Illinois Fire Service Institute. She retired from the U of I in 2024. Now permanently settled in Champaign, she and her husband spend their retirement traveling to visit loved ones, particularly their son and extended family in Phoenix, Arizona.
